We wanted to give you an update on the Wheaties and Tarefic Awards! Please spread the word about nominations. Last year we had a 3 week nomination period, and still some blogs didn’t get the word in time.
As you can see, we are short on nominations for a few categories. Feel free to continue nominations for another week! Here are the nominations so far, and you can check out the links so you can be an informed voter. If you have a link to add, please let us know, and put it in brackets to avoid our spam catcher. And don’t forget that Main Street Plaza is hosting their Brodie Awards too.

Correction to your doctrinal list, as per my comment on the the initial post – the doctrinal nomination was: A partial response to Brother Otterson [http://timesandseasons.org/index.php/2014/05/a-partial-response-to-brother-otterson/]
and the policy nomination : Another partial response…, but you have the latter under both, and the former under neither.
Oh, and seconding Moss’s suggestion for best faith crisis post from the initial post:
“Perhaps under Faith Crisis? Petra’s I Loved To See The Temple: http://zelophehadsdaughters.com/2014/09/13/i-loved-to-see-the-temple/#more-11055“
http://www.feministmormonhousewives.org/2014/04/the-mormon-priestess-the-short-version/
For best post about the temple.
what’s the difference between best humorous blog and funniest blog?
can I nominate Operation Underground Railroad for best Mormon activism? I’m pretty sure the whole thing was started by Mormons, and promoted by Glenn Beck. But it’s not really a bloggernacle deal, I’m such a newbie I don’t know how this works.
[https://www.ourrescue.org/]
also this was by far my best work before writers block hit (yes I’m self nominating):
[http://bycommonconsent.com/2014/06/04/dear-bishop/]
If you don’t mind the mostly shameless self promotion, please include my blog, Warfare in the Book of Mormon, for best apologetic blog. Thanks.
Kristine A,
I think there was a bit of confusion…Humorous blog should be a blog-wide category…whereas the other category should be funniest thread (as in, a specific post/set of comments). The nominations for “funniest blog” should be up in the “humorous blog” spot.
~~~
Anyway, I’ll add a few more nominations here:
Best blog layout/graphics:
Interpreter: Journal Of Mormon Scripture [http://www.mormoninterpreter.com/]
Best apologetic blog:
Interpreter: Journal Of Mormon Scripture [http://www.mormoninterpreter.com/]
Commenter that started the most arguments:
Matt Warren (of Facebook)
Worst Mormon Internet Drama:
Apokellypse – (everything on internet groups about Kate Kelly’s excommunication, in addition to the excommunication)
Sister Mkhabela’s Forgotten Prayer – (Ongoing MoFem internet drama over not recognizing the first black woman’s prayer in General Conference), see also [http://www.feministmormonhousewives.org/2014/10/sister-mkhabelas-prayer-our-perspectives-are-very-different/]
and, for that matter
“The PRethren”
🙂 Tongans are allowed a little self promotion.
and best male perspective on ordination “Tears for the unordained women in my life”
http://rationalfaiths.com/tears-unordained-women-life/“
Seconding The Mormon Priestess on FMH for best post on the temple.
I guess I haven’t followed the Tarific awards, but I personally don’t like this “worst commentator” category, and even if I did, I wouldn’t nominate Jettboy or Douglas. Why Douglas? I don’t know all his history, but everything he’s written since I’ve been here has been hilarious. Crumudgenly and conservative maybe, but always entertaining.
I should also be nominated for “worst commentator,” at least at Millennial Star because I’ve so often made a nuisance of myself over there and gotten myself moderated.
I just realized not everyone knows me well enough to know how hilarious I think nominating myself is. #arrogantjackass
I nominate Aspiring Mormon Women (the blog/website and the FB group) for best Mormon activism. It’s high time (well, actually, it’s way past due) someone started promoting/encouraging the professional achievements of LDS women, and this group is doing fantastic work. They’ve managed to strike a tone that seems genuinely welcoming of a whole lot of diverse viewpoints and life situations.
New blogger: Kristine A at BCC
LDS_Aussie is my choice for best new blogger……good variety and issues
I help run [LDS.net], and believe it would make a terrific nomination for best new blog of 2014. The site has long had a forum, but launched a blog portion for the first time in April 2014. I believe the blog is a worthy contender.
I help run [LDS (dot) net], and believe it would make a terrific nomination for best new blog of 2014. The site has long had a forum, but launched a blog portion for the first time in April 2014. I believe the blog could also be a worthy contender for best blog layout/graphics. Sorry for no links, when I try to post them even with brackets, they get caught on the spam filter.
Here are some of the articles we published this year worth considering:
