1 Sam 8:18-22 18 And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the Lord will not hear you in that day. 19 ¶Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us; [...]

Peggy Fletcher Stack of the Salt Lake Tribune said “that LDS women are scheduled, as of now [Mar 18, 2013], to offer invocations or benedictions at next month’s General Conference”. Which session will it be? Will it be an invocation, or benediction. My bet is a benediction for the last session, so there won’t be [...]

With Easter coming up on Sunday, I thought it would be interesting to review the entry from the Bible Dictionary. Easter This word occurs only once in the Bible (Acts 12:4) and then would be better translated “Passover.” The word Easter is from Eastre, a Norse goddess whose pagan festival was observed at the spring equinox. [...]

I participated in temple sealing recently. For those not familiar with a “Sealing” ordinance, Mormons believe that we can be bound to our spouses and families for not only this life, but the next life as well. I participated in an early morning session and there was just one sister there, so she had to [...]

There is a saying that the LDS Temple is the University of the Lord. Unlike a traditional university, there is no opportunity to ask questions, do homework, or take tests to evaluate if we are learning. The learning in the temple is supposed to be personal. What would you say are the biggest things you [...]

Mormons have the opportunity to submit names for special prayers in the temple. The names are placed on the altars of the temple, and God is asked to bless those whose names lie on the altars of the temple. I believe they are there for about 2 weeks before they are removed.

I was paying extra special attention to the words of the Sealing ceremony at the temple. The words are nearly identical for both the man and the woman being sealed, but there is one interesting difference. When a man is sealed to a woman, he is asked to “receive her unto yourself.” When a woman [...]

Once again, I’m thinking about the temple. Why do women wear veils, and why are they supposed to veil their faces when participating in the true order of prayer? At a wedding, many women wear veils for the ceremony. For a wedding, it seems to hold a bit of romance. In Islam, it is a [...]
